BEHIND THE BOARDS
I’m Eric, and this is my wife, Jessica. Welcome to CLASSIX Home Designs!
Our journey started long before this venture. Since 2012, we’ve been navigating life as a team, even when distance kept us apart. As an Army medical evacuation pilot, I deployed three times to Afghanistan, while Jessica kept things running at home. When I retired in 2024, we knew it was time to start our next chapter—one where we could build something meaningful together.
Owning our own business has always been a dream. We wanted to put our hard work, creativity, and skills to the test, and fine woodworking was the perfect fit. I’ve been passionate about woodworking since childhood, spending Saturday mornings watching The New Yankee Workshop, This Old House, and The Woodwright’s Shop. Working with wood has always felt natural to me.
Jessica, on the other hand, is new to woodworking but quickly discovered that her artistic eye and tech-savvy nature make her a perfect fit for the craft. She brings our designs to life, programs the CNC, and even built this website.
Together, we blend tradition with innovation to create timeless, high-quality pieces. We’re excited to share our work with you—thanks for being part of our journey!
ABOUT OUR BOARDS
What sets us apart from many cutting board makers is our commitment to crafting only end grain boards. End grain boards offer superior quality and durability, standing up to wear and tear far better than the more common edge grain boards. While edge grain boards are cheaper and easier to make—allowing for less waste—they also dull your knives faster and show more visible cut marks, as the blade slices through the wood fibers.
In contrast, end grain boards have fibers running vertically, allowing your knife to glide between them rather than cutting through them. This design keeps your knives sharper for longer and results in fewer cut marks, making it a smarter choice for your kitchen.
We finish our boards with a protective blend of mineral oil and bee’s wax, which shields the wood from water damage, cracks, and bacterial growth. To maintain the board’s beauty and functionality, we recommend regularly reapplying the oil and wax after cleaning or whenever the board begins to lose its shine.
